Pharmaceutical Press is the publishing division of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain (RPSGB), which was founded in 1841. The Society is the professional and regulatory body for pharmacists in England, Scotland and Wales. It also regulates pharmacy technicians on a voluntary basis, which is expected to become statutory under anticipated legislation.
The primary objectives of the Society are to lead, regulate, develop and represent the profession of pharmacy. The Society leads and supports the development of the profession within the context of the public benefit. This includes the advancement of science, practice, education and knowledge in pharmacy. In addition, it promotes the profession's policies and views to a range of external stakeholders in a number of different forums.
Following the publication in 2007 of the Government White Paper Trust, Assurance and Safety - The Regulation of Health Professionals in the 21st Century, the Society is working towards the demerger of its regulatory and professional roles. This will see the establishment of a new General Pharmaceutical Council and a new professional body for pharmacy in 2010.
Pharmaceutical Press has been producing high-quality publications on pharmacy and related disciplines for over 150 years. We publish a wide range of titles in print and digital formats, including Martindale: The Complete Drug Reference, the British National Formulary (BNF), Stockley's Drug Interactions, The Handbook of Pharmaceutical Excipients, Clarke's Analysis of Drugs and Poisons and the Journal of Pharmacy and Pharmacology.
Martindale is produced by an in-house team of editors every two years. It has been continually developed since the first edition in 1883 to be universally acknowledged as the pre-eminent source of information about the world's medicines. The BNF is a unique co-publication between the RPSGB and the British Medical Association that provides advice on the use of medicines.
Pharmaceutical Press has a wide range of other books, journals and digital publications which provide core information for those working in or studying pharmacy, pharmacology and the pharmaceutical sciences. In collaboration with both new and established authors and editors, our list of publications is significantly expanding to provide authoritative and comprehensive information on medicines for all modern healthcare professionals.
MedicinesComplete is an online subscription service which offers access to world-leading drug and healthcare resources, including Martindale: The Complete Drug Reference.
